MODERN FAMILY: The Complete Second Season Review

I initially wasn’t expecting much from this show but after the pilot episode I was ready to declare it one of the best sitcoms to come along in years. As the first season progressed this statement would prove to be more than true. After a perfect Season 1, I was worried there would be nowhere for this show to go but down. I mean, how could they re-create the brilliance of the first season again? I was equal parts excited and nervous when Season 2 premiered, but thankfully I was worried for nothing. The first half of the season is exactly the quality I’d come to expect from this show. That’s not to say that Season 2 didn’t suffer the tiniest bit of a sophomore slump. The second half is not as strong as the first. But even when this show has a bit of an off episode it’s still better than almost any sitcom you’ll find on TV.

The writing is very sharp. It’s clear the creators of this show understand the dynamics that make up a family. But one of the biggest reasons this show works so well is the enormously talented cast. There is not a single weak link. Everyone is superb. This has, hands down, the best ensemble cast of any show on TV right now. They work so well together and it feels like you’re watching a real family. It would be hard to single out anyone as being a standout. I honestly love them all.

If you’re not watching this show you’re really missing out. “Modern Family” is an instant classic and will go down as such. The praise that has been heaped onto it and the awards it has won are wholly justified. Great television like this doesn’t come along very often. And despite a weaker second half Season 2 is still the brilliant, hilarious (sometimes I find myself laughing so hard and for such a long period of time that I feel like I can’t breathe) show with the family we’ve come to love and relate to.

My personal favorite episode of the season was probably the episode “Halloween.” The miscommunications caused by Gloria’s accent are priceless and had me dying of laughter.

Pick up a copy of Season 2 today, and for that matter Season 1, if you haven’t already. Not only is this show incredibly funny, but it also rings true.

Too less information about the season and repetitive lines (good first half and not-as-good second half). I really loved your Glee review cause that has so much information about the season itself. This one looks like a general review of Modern Family rather than for Season 2.

It is still a good read, but I did not have the feel of reading a season two review.
