Russia and CIS: April 28 - May 1, Results

If the box office of the weekend 21-24 April were the weakest since September 2010, then the past, by contrast, was the best this year (Top 10 - $ 20.55 M), not counting the Christmas holidays. And all thanks to the joint launch of two American blockbusters.

The fifth part of the racing franchise Fast Five climbed on the top spot with the strongest first weekend this year - $11.65M on 1100 screens. The popularity of the previous parts, spectacular trailers and tv-spots with a focus on the incredible mission, the organization premiere with the movie stars in Moscow, good cast decisions have contributed to this success. Spectators who came on film turned out exactly the same as that of the fourth part - 1.65 mln. Favorable reviews of the film should help avoid serious drop before the arrival of Pirates of the Caribbean 4.

Marvel Comics Thor took second place with the respectable $ 6.08M. So, the decision to push the Thor with the other high-budget tape on one weekend does not look so crazy as it seemed before. A huge number of screens and an extensive advertising campaign made possible to surpass results of the movies Iron Man (2008, $4.23M, 608 screens), X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009, $3.74M, 774 screens), G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009, $4.71M., 756 screens). True, it was possible to do thanks to higher prices on 3D. By the number of tickets sold (0.65 million) the movie directed by Kenneth Branagh yielded all of them. The result of Thor by a holiday Monday inclusive grows to $8.12M.

Rio dropped to third position with $0.74M and after four weekends has $ 23.41M and 2.85 million viewers. Now Rio takes the seventh place in the ranking of highest-grossing animated films in local currency.
