Antje Traue set to play a villain in Superman Reboot

According to Variety, the German actress Antje Traue has officially signed on to play the role of Faora in the upcoming Superman film, Man of Steel.   She joins Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane in the cast of Zack Snyder's take on the popular super hero.

The character of Faora has appeared multiple times in Superman comics, and while it's unclear exactly how Snyder will choose to depict the character, it seems likely that Faora will serve as a side-kick to General Zod, potentially as his wife.   Faora has been depicted previously in print as a martial art's expert capable of using pressure points, making her very difficult in hand to hand combat.   Faora has also been depicted with the ability to disrupt molecular bonds, a power she used in creating a mutagenic virus used in Zod's plans.  Again, at this point we can only speculate on the true role of the character.

The film is tentatively slated for a December 2012 release with production scheduled to kick off this summer in Chicago.
