In february theaters’s billboards is changing very quickly. But the mass audience doesn't find 100% hits in this pile of movies. This weekend openers will try to change the situation.
"Vykrutasy" (http://www.kino-n-sport.ru/news/trailer/id/744). This is a new project of Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted), which starts on 797 screens. This romantic comedy has the active support of TV channels and the great cast: the most popular Russian actors (Konstantin Khabensky and Ivan Urgant) and "our" Hollywood star Milla Jovovich. $4,58M for week-end is quite probable.
The independent distributor "West" releases Gnomeo & Juliet 3D on 900 screens. Now a competition among family movies are very weak, so Gnomeo & Juliet can start slightly better, than Alpha and Omega (578 screens, $1,66M) and Open Season 3 (456 screens, $2,33M).
The thriller Unknown opens a world premiere on 367 screens. Spy thrillers lands in the area of 0,5-1,5M usually, even with stars like Russell Crowe and Leonardo Di Caprio. Taken, where Liam Neeson had a main role too, failed in Russia, so Unknown will fight for the third place with $0,85M.
Danny Boyle's drama 127 hours is added to other Oscar nominees and it starts on 197 screens. The closest analogues of this film are Frozen (150 screens, $0,33M) and Buried (125 screens, $0,31M). Their results are very weak. But, at least, 127 hours has a bright trailer, positive reviews and James Franco, who is able to attract a female audience. We hope for $0,61M.
Our distributors have decided to release on 190 screens Woody Allen's You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger. But the chances to take something are very small now.
